Zachary was born into a family of avid travelers and artists in New Hampshire. His mother ran tours to France, his grand parents ran summer bicycling tours to the Alps in the summer, and skiing tours to the Alps in the winter. He was fortunate to tag along on a couple of those tours in his youth, and developed a deep appreciation for experiencing diverse environments and cultures.
During Zach's academic years, he pursued study abroad opportunities to feed that hunger to travel. Whether it was semesters in China and Nepal, India and Africa, he was determined to integrate cross cultural learning into his curriculum. Towards the end of University, the love for photography became evident: he would spend hours looking through his photos, recalling the joys of past adventures.
After graduating University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Cultural Anthropology, Zach started his own construction & masonry business, and upgraded his 35mm film camera for a DSLR. The travel bug was ever-present and he took more opportunities to travel. Zach lived in Washington State exploring the Olympic Peninsula, northern California on a Native American Reservation, Southeast Asia, Scandinavia, California's old growth forests, and the splendors of the American Southwest. The passion for photography grew with each closing of the shutter.
Zachary hopes that his photographs inspire others to push themselves beyond their comfort zone, to enjoy the beauty and diversity of this planet, and to better understand the value in protecting its purity for future generations.
"To take a photograph is to hold one's breath when all faculties converge in a face of fleeing reality. It is at that moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.
- Henri Cartier-Bresson
